Where Is My Inventory? Tracking Amazon FBA Restock From Purchase to Live

By Rob Fogarty, Amazon FBA seller (OA and wholesale) and founder of Opero3P · October 2026

Running out of stock on a good ASIN usually isn't a buying problem. The units were bought. They're sitting somewhere between the supplier and Amazon, and nobody noticed until the listing went inactive.

The four dates that matter

Every purchase goes through the same journey:

  1. Ordered: you placed the order with the supplier.
  2. Received: it arrived at you or your prep center.
  3. Shipped: it left for Amazon.
  4. Live: Amazon received it and it's sellable.

If you track those four dates, two things become easy: knowing when stock will actually be sellable, and spotting the purchase that's stuck between two of them.

Your real lead times, not the supplier's

Suppliers quote shipping time. What you need is ordered-to-live, which includes your prep center and Amazon's receiving. Once a few purchases have gone through, you can see it per supplier and per product. That's the number to plan reorders with.

Catching what's stuck

Opero3P's Bob Restock (Inventory → Restock) shows each purchase on that journey, the expected live date, and anything that looks stuck: received weeks ago but never shipped, or shipped but not live.

One lesson from building it: an alert is only as good as your records. On the first night, it flagged ten shipments as stuck at my prep center. They weren't. Tracking had only just started, so no line had been marked shipped yet. Now it only calls something "stuck at prep" once your records show you do mark shipments, and only for recent purchases. If an alert is wrong, fix the record, not the alert.

A weekly routine

FAQ

How long does Amazon take to receive FBA inventory? It varies by warehouse and time of year, which is why measuring your own shipped-to-live time beats any rule of thumb.

What is a good reorder point? Daily sales times your real ordered-to-live lead time, plus a safety buffer. Using the supplier's quoted shipping time alone will run you out.

Why does my stock show as received but not live? Usually because it's still at your prep center or in Amazon's receiving. Check whether the shipment was actually created and sent.
